My client is an award-winning business, delivering sustainable solutions for the UK’s transport infrastructure.

A senior engineering role within the project team, centring on surveying and setting out / control of the works on site. Specialist skills in use of surveying equipment / techniques, use of 3D software, earthworks volume assessments, machine control and cloud-based data management. As with general engineering roles, overriding purpose is to ensure that the project works are undertaken efficiently, accurate records are kept, and works are delivered in accordance with the customer’s requirements.

• Establish and maintain site control (primary setting out / stations)
• Surveying / secondary setting out primarily of roadworks (earthworks, road pavements, kerbing etc.)
• Use of 3D model and contract drawings / specifications for above, providing specialist engineering expertise and support to the project team and other activities including support of planning and commercial functions (earthworks volume assessment for detailed planning and interim measures for valuation etc.)
• Monitor works in progress / record keeping and identification of change within works supervised

Principal responsibilities and accountabilities

• Check primary control stations provided by client / notify any issues within core data
• Carry out validation topographical surveys, ensuring high level of accuracy is achieved
• Complete comparison of validation survey against ground level / topographical survey provided by client – identify any differences and notify PM /QS
• Validate 3D design model provided by client. Notify any issues to client (via TQ) and site agent.
• Adjust / coordinate 3D model to ensure it is suitable for machine control and earthworks volume assessments

Technical skills and experience

• Competence in use of setting out survey equipment (GPS / Total Station / automatic level)
• Proficient in the use of 3D modelling / geospatial software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MX Genio etc.
• Competent in assigning 3D model / off-sets etc to GPS controlled earthworks plant and setting up of base stations / repeaters to enable machine control
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Proficient in use of on-line / cloud based data management systems / BIM.
